As December comes to a close, I’ve found myself doing a lot of reflecting. This time last year, I couldn’t have imagined what the months ahead would bring. In July, I published my very first book… and now, here I am at Christmas, with four books out in the world and a heart absolutely full of gratitude.
The book sales through December have honestly blown me away. They’ve been slow and steady, which feels just right to me. Knowing that, little by little, these stories are finding their way into people’s hands is such a lovely feeling. And it’s been especially heartwarming to see how well The Stuff Series has been doing in the run-up to Christmas. Maybe they’ve been wrapped up as gifts, maybe chosen by teachers or parents, or maybe by children who see a little bit of themselves in the pages — whatever the reason, it means more than I can say.
I’ve also been quietly amazed by the little community growing online. Since July, my videos have been watched over eleven thousand times, with readers stopping by to say hello, leave kind comments, and share their thoughts. It still surprises me that people I’ve never met are taking a moment out of their day to connect over stories — and I’m so grateful for every single one.
📚 The Stuff Series — Stories Close to My Heart
The Neurodivergent Stuff series grew out of so many years spent in classrooms, listening to children trying to make sense of the world. I wanted these books to feel like real school days — messy, funny, sometimes overwhelming, but full of small moments that matter. Setting them at Riverstone Primary School in Cornwall felt natural. It’s a place that now feels as real to me as any school I’ve ever worked in.
Summer came first. A child who feels everything deeply — smells, sounds, emotions, social cues — all rushing in at once. Writing her journals, with their scribbles, doodles, pie charts, and sharp little observations, felt like giving a voice to children who carry so much inside them. Watching her find her feet at a new school, through tiny moments — a growing friendship, a frog pencil, a teacher who really sees her — was a joy. Even her meltdowns weren’t something to shy away from. I wanted them to be part of her story, not the end of it.
Then Joshua arrived — Flaky to his friends — loud, fast, endlessly curious, with a brain fizzing with ideas and the occasional accidental pencil throw. His story almost wrote itself. I loved trying to capture that sense of movement and noise inside his head, through comic strips, “BrainCast” podcast episodes, and all the little ways he tries to make sense of school. He isn’t trying to be fixed. He’s just trying to be understood. And so many children are doing exactly that every day.
Neither of these books is about changing who a child is. They’re about being seen, about kindness, and about finding people who get you. After nearly 30 years as a teacher, working with children like Summer and Joshua, writing these stories felt like a way of honouring them. Seeing readers connect with that has meant more to me than I can put into words.
🌱 What’s Next — Emily McCloud
I’ve now begun writing the next book in the series: Stuff That Has to Be Just Right. This one will follow Emily McCloud, a child on the autistic spectrum. I’m really excited — and a little nervous — about telling her story. I want to do it justice. Like the others, it will be warm, honest, and rooted in everyday moments. I’ll be sharing sneak peeks in the new year, including an early look at the cover, and I can’t wait to see Emily take shape on the page.
🌊 The Towans Series — Cornwall, Community, and Second Chances
Alongside the children’s books, it’s also been lovely to see how The Towans Series has been finding its readers. Those stories came from a different place — from my love of the Cornish coast and the way community shapes us, especially in the quieter seasons of life. Writing about the dunes, the sea, and the people who live in their shadow has felt like writing a love letter to home.
I’ve already started sketching out ideas for Book Three, and it feels good to be back with those characters again, listening to what they might want to say next and where their stories could lead.
✨ A New Series on the Horizon
And there’s something else quietly taking shape too. A brand new adult fiction series is now in production. The story arc is written, ideas are flowing, and it’s bringing together two of my favourite places in the world — Italy and Cornwall. 🌊 It will be another story where place matters, weaving mystery and romance together, and exploring what happens when past and present collide. It’s still early days, but I’m excited to see where it grows, and I’ll share more as it develops through 2026.
💙 Thank You — Truly
To have published four books in six months feels quite surreal when I stop and think about it. Seeing the books now out in the world, and reading the kind reviews people have taken the time to leave, is deeply humbling. These stories were written because I believed in them — because I wanted children to see themselves in books, and readers to find a sense of home in Cornwall’s dunes and seas.
If even one reader feels understood, comforted, or a little less alone because of these stories, then they’ve done what I hoped they would.
As Christmas arrives, I just want to say thank you. Thank you to everyone who’s read a book, shared a post, left a review, sent a message, or quietly supported from the sidelines. Thank you for following along on this journey and cheering me on. With my Master’s in Education now completed and new stories on the way, it feels like such an exciting time — and I’m so grateful to have you here with me.
Merry Christmas & here’s to more stories, more connection, and more moments of belonging in the New Year.
